The final week of my summer teaching arrived. As I was about to leave, the director stopped me. “By the way, that class you’ve been teaching? I’ve had so many kids sign up, I might have to split it. If I do, would you be willing to take the second section of it?”
Trying to conceal my excitement and appear professional, I told her that yes, I’d be glad to. She told me that she would let me know, and I went home. Weeks passed, and I didn’t hear anything. Finally, about two weeks before the start of the year (what is it with me and two weeks before dance starts?), I got a call.
“Yes, it looks like I will have to split that class. Do you still want it?”
I assured her very calmly that yes, I did still want the class. But after she hung up, I may or may not have screamed in excitement.
The thought flashed through my mind: “I’m a dance teacher. After eight years of work, I am a dance teacher!”
God had taken the teaching job I had thought he was offering to give me the one he was really offering, one where I would stay with my family. We’re now coming up on my first Spring Recital as a teacher, and I’m loving every minute of it.
Every step of the way, God was there, leading me, pointing out the way; sometimes subtly and sometimes forcefully. He tested me with the possibility of moving; told me to give up what I thought I wanted to do what he was clearly leading me to do, then gave me what I had wanted as well.
This is where I was planning to end the story when I wrote it. This is the direction my life was plainly taking. Aaaaand then God stuck another plot twist in it. But I don't have it written out yet, so I'll leave you with a cliff-hanger. Muahahahaha! :)
